Serres: Geographical Description of the Region

The Regional Unit of Serres is located in northern Greece and presents a rich geographical relief that contributes to the great biodiversity of the area. Lakes: Lake Kerkini, one of the most important wetlands in Greece, is located in the western part of P.E. Serron. The lake is a refuge for many species of birds and aquatic animals. Rivers: The Strymonas River crosses the area from north to south, contributing to the fertility of the plains and creating rich habitats for fish, amphibians and other species. Mountains: To the north rise the mountains of Menoiki and Aggistro, while to the west lies the mountain range of Beles, which is a natural border with Bulgaria. The mountains are home to forests of beech, oak and fir, offering shelter to wild animals such as wolves, bears and deer. Sea: Although Serres does not have direct access to the sea, it is close to the Thracian Sea and the shores of Amphipolis, which are historically linked to the area. The geographical diversity of P.E. Serres creates a rich mosaic of ecosystems that supports an exceptional biodiversity, making the area an important destination for nature lovers, researchers and tourists.

The Strymon River is one of the most significant rivers in Northern Greece, flowing through the Serres region.

Serres has rich Forests with Beatifull high mountains that surrounds the whole regional unit of Serres.

Serres Valley

One of the largest in Greece .The valley of Serres is a fertile and expansive plain in northern Greece, surrounded by the mountain ranges of Beles to the north, Menikio to the east, and Kerdylia to the south.

Sea , Amfipolis and the coastline

The area where the Strymon River meets the sea near Amphipolis and Kerdylia is a fascinating natural environment characterized by a rich ecosystem.
