Olive Museum in Elaionas, Serres
The Olive Museum in Elaionas, Serres, is an important cultural attraction that offers visitors a deep insight into the history of olive oil production. The museum is located in a picturesque village surrounded by over 18,000 olive trees, including 4,000 ancient trees that are more than 300 years old. Elaionas, with its roots in antiquity, was known during the Ottoman period as Doutilis and renamed Goriani during the Byzantine era. Its current name reflects its long-standing tradition of olive cultivation.
olive mill
In the village's central square, the old stone-built olive mill, constructed in 1870, stands as a historical landmark. Initially powered by water, the mill played a central role in producing olive oil for the village and the surrounding areas. It ceased operations in 1975 and now serves as a museum, allowing visitors to learn about traditional olive oil production.

Inside the museum, the original equipment, such as millstones, presses, and tanks, has been preserved. The exhibition showcases the three main stages of olive oil production: crushing the fruit, pressing the olive paste, and separating the oil. Through rich photographic material and educational programs, visitors can explore the traditional methods of olive harvesting and oil production used by local farmers.
